Kailash Mansarovar Yatra with Inner Parikrama

This is a journey to one of the most isolated regions of Tibet, and yet ironically both Hindu and Buddhist consider it to be the centre of the world, both physically and mentally. Mt Kailash (6714m) is the holiest mountain in Tibet- it is the throne of the gods' The Indus Brahmaputra, Sutlij and Karnali Rivers begin their journey to the plains of India and Pakistan from here. This is the ultimate pilgrimage site for Hindus, and Buddhists, who come to circle the holy mountain and bathe in the freezing waters of Lake Mansarovar (4560m). A ritual bath on this lake will deliver a pilgrim to Brahma's paradise and a drink of its water relinquishes the sins of a hundred lifetimes. The 53 Km Kailash circuit is the holiest of all Tibet's pilgrimages and the beacon which draws most travellers to Western Tibet. It is said that a Single Parikarma erases the accumulated sins of a lifetime, while 108 circumbulation will achieve Salvation or Nirvana.

Hindu Mythology believes that the person will be qualified to undertake this most sacred Yatra to touch the earthly roots of the Holy Mt. Kailash after at least 21 times of Kailash Parbat’s Parikram by outer. And till more than 300 devotees have been complete this course of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra with Inner Parikrama successfully and achieved the Merit. The word, Kailash is “Panchakshari” represents the five dimensions. Shiva Purana state that the five dimensions of the Kailash Mountain are considered as the five entrances. Out of the five faces, according to the Scholars, four could be physically seen and the fifth face is invisible and it is said that there is no night and day and believed, that is the absolute power. That is the Shiva.

Mt. Kailas, (6,740m) high peak is situated to the north of the Himalayan barrier, completely within Tibet. It is the perfect mountain with splendid beauty, with 4 great faces. It is the spiritual center for four great religions: Buddhism, Hinduism, the Jain religion and the pre-Buddhist animistic religion - Bonpo. For the Hindus Mount Kailas is the earthly manifestation of Mt. Meru, their spiritual centre of the universe, described as a fantastic 'world pillar' 84,000 miles high, around which all else revolves, its roots in the lowest hell and its summit kissing the heaven. On the top live their most revered God, Shiva, and his consort Parvati. For the Jains (an Indian religious group), Kailas is the site where their first diviner achieved enlightenment. For the older, more ancient religion of Bon, it is the site where its founder Shanrab is said to have descended from heaven.
